The minimum performance target for a full time trader is a little more flexible. A minimum target of 20% annual return per year is reasonable. The main difference between a full time trader and intermediate trader is the consistency in returns. A full time trader may not necessarily have a higher return as compared to a serious intermediate trader but their returns are steadier and more consistent. Even George Soros, a well known trader, has a lifetime average return on investment of 30% a year.
The goal of a full time trader is to accumulate enough money to put into riskless investments so that they no longer need to trade. While this may sound ironic, trading at this level becomes a game. Full time traders trade because they continue to enjoy the business but no longer need to trade to survive. Once at this level, you should aim to have enough money in riskless investment so that your lifestyle will always be maintained. Regardless of market conditions, full time traders should still be able to continue their current standard of living. This is when financial freedom is fully realized.
Strangely, when you no longer require the money, this is when the money flows in faster than ever with less work.

BONUS #1 - Reminiscence of A Stock Operator
Jesse Livermore is considered by many of today's top Wall Street traders as the greatest trader who ever lived. Livermore broke new ground in trading the market. His timing techniques, money management systems, and high-momentum approach to trading in stocks and commodities was revolutionary, and remains valid today. He was widely blamed for the 1929 stock market crash which he shorted heavily. He made more than $100 million of profit which he subsequently lost. |
